Questions From The Back Seat

Today I was out with Thing 1 and Thing 2 doing errands around town. Being that we live in South Florida, 'cold' is a relative term. Today it was 87 degrees, sunny and breezy, with typical afternoon thundershowers. Here is the conversation between Livie and I:

Mom: "Oh, wow, Livie. It is going to be cold in Chongqing next month. We need to get you a coat before our trip."
Livie (from the backseat of the Van): "What is a 'coat'?"
Mom: "OH MY GOSH!!! Ok, ok...hmmm...well, a coat is like a big, thick, warm thing you wear over your clothes when it is cold outside."

Yeah, I know...Merriam-Webster is beating down my door for me to come and help them update their next dictionary!

Livie: "You mean like a thick sweater."
Mom (feeling particularly stupid at this point): "YES! Just like that!"
Livie: "Do they sell coats in Florida?"
Mom: "I will buy you one online."
Livie: "OK! Can you show me a picture of a coat when we get home?"
Mom: "Yes, of course."

So, we come home and I Google a picture (above) of a coat so that Livie will get the general idea of what this thing is that she will be wearing when we go to visit The Choi's in Shanghai and her orphange next month.

Sad. Very sad. I actually had to google a photo of a COAT for my kid! Cest la vie! This is what happens when you live in a place that doesn't so much as bat an eye at white worn after Labor Day, and where I wear flip-flops at least 300 days out of the year!

That is hysterical!!! AG was just asking tonight if it was fall. Well, yes but you can still wear shorts tomorrow. But by the weekend, you can probably wear jeans. Too hard to explain.

If you have time, go to the Sawgrass Mall and there is a Burlington's Coat Factory there (close to the entrance by the restaurants). They have great coats at affordable prices for everyone in the family. We bought all our winter gear there before moving to Canada! The kid's stuff is in the toddler/baby section.

Viv-
I plan on taking a peek at Burlington, but I have to do it when Livie is at school. Otherwise, if they don't have what we need she will dissolve into tears about NOT getting her coat and having to wait for one to be ordered...fun life with a kid w/SPD!

I got a great deal online at Old Navy last year. I candy apple red bomber jacket for $20. You may want to check them out.

Too cute! I can't wait to see Livie in her coat. And does Mom have one or is she getting a new one too?

Candy-
I have at least a couple of COATS from our days of spending Christmas up North skiing (snowboarding for Lindsay and Chris), so I am definitely OK in that department. Now I just need to make sure that Livie has a nice light weight winter coat that she can get on/off on her own as to avoid any potential meltdowns! :-)

Oh, this is too cute - I love it! Of course, where we live that conversation is never going to happen.

Darn it. :)
